A plane lost power just after taking off from the airport and had to make an emergency landing on I-95. The aircraft landed safely and no one was injured.

It was around 12:30 Saturday afternoon when the Houlton Regional Communications Center was made aware of a 'Mayday' call from an aircraft near Houlton. A few minutes later, pilot Craig Maynard, age 56 of Dedham, reported that he had lost power in his plane and made a forced landing in the Northbound side of I-95 at mile marker 304. Trooper Carmen Lilly responded.

She found a 1961 Cessna 172 that had experienced engine problems after taking off from Houlton International Airport. Maynard tried to return to the airport, but the engine lost power and stalled. Fortunately, he was able to land safely on the highway.

The plane was towed with State Police escort to the Houlton Airport. Also on the plane with Craig Maynard were 77-year-old Rodney Maynard of Presque Isle, who is a co-owner of the plane with Craig, and 24-year-old Cortney Maynard. No injuries were reported.
