A 70-year-old woman was struck and killed by a vehicle driven by a man she worked with.

Bath Police Lieutenant Robert Savary says the accident happened just after 6:00 this morning. Sergeant Nathan Gould found a pedestrian lying on Washington Street, near the intersection with King Street. She was unresponsive and attempts by Gould, and later by Bath Fire were unsuccessful.

Police say she was struck by a Chevy Trailblazer operated by 57-year-old Edward Buzzell of Bath. Both Buzzell and the pedestrian are identified as employees of Bath Iron Works. The woman's name is being withheld while her family is notified.

Buzzell is cooperating with police, who say it appears he was traveling north on Washington Street when he came upon the woman in a crosswalk. She was crossing towards BIW by Union Street when she was struck by Buzzell. The case is under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.
