Oxford police spent Wednesday night looking for a young boy after a passerby reported seeing a child wearing socks and wrapped in a blanket walking alone along Marr Lane.

Police said the passerby told the boy, possibly between the ages of 9 and 11, to go back home, and it was too cold to be outside dressed like that, according to a report from the Sun Journal.

Sgt. Rickie Jack went door-to-door looking for the child and received assistance from a state trooper and a tracking dog, but the child was not found.

"We have checked with the school and all the children were accounted for," Lt. Mike Ward told The Sun Thursday morning. "We have had no child reported missing either, so we may have to go with 'unfounded' at this point."

According to the police report, a bundle of clothing was found on the side of the road, and Jack reported finding some tracks along King Street that appeared to be left behind by a child, but the tracks eventually ended at the asphalt.

Anyone with information on the possibly missing child is asked to call the Oxford Police Department at 539-4414.
