An Orrington man is hospitalized after losing control of his motorcycle in a construction zone on I-395 last night, according to police.

Brad Spratt, 35, was traveling westbound on the motorcycle toward Bangor, at around 11 p.m., according to Maine State Police Trooper Brian Creamer. The road has been graded in that area, and Spratt was attempting to pass another vehicle by traveling into a closed lane. His wheel came in contact with debris at the point where the grading had ended and the original pavement resumed, according to police.

He lost control of the bike and was thrown off. Trooper Creamer says Spratt was not wearing a helmet and suffered severe head injuries. The on-ramps in Brewer were closed for a time while crews worked to clear the scene.
