The 6th Annual Golf Tournament, put on by the Orrington Fire And Rescue Association, will offer some unusual challenges, and benefit the organization's work in the town.

The 4-Man Scramble is held at the Rocky Knoll Country Club, on the River Road (or Route 15) in Orrington. The club is under new ownership, so this is an excellent chance to see what they've done with the place! Jim has played the course and says it's being very well managed.

It's a fun event that, in past years, has started with the shooting of a cannon. OFRA President Greg Spencer tells me they're 'working on that' for this year, but it's not guaranteed at this point. Sponsors provide prizes for certain holes, and Greg says, since it's a fireman's association, they don't call the challenges getting 'closest to the pin,' but rather 'closest to the hydrant!' And at one hole, you get to putt with an ax!

Lunch will be provided and admission is $200 per team, if it's paid by August 1st, and $240 a team after that. The Tournament is being held on August 20th, beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Money raised by the event helps with things like the organization's Christmas for kids campaign, and to help community members in need. Just recently, the Association arranged for a training facility for firefighters.

If you're in interested in taking part or sponsoring a hole, contact Chris Luce at 974-9834, or Greg Spencer at 631-7733. Checks for teams can be mailed to Orrington Fire Association,  14 Johnson Mill Road. Orrington, ME 04474
