State wildlife officials are looking for a bobcat that has eaten at least one pet in Orono.

Maine Game Warden Jim Fahey told the Bangor Daily News there have been reports of bobcat sightings near North Main Avenue, Crosby Street and Park Street.

Fahey is telling Orono residents to make sure their pets are safe.

“Basically, the words of caution are, ‘People should practice proper pet containment practices, keeping an eye on small dogs that might go outside of the home, certainly keeping their cats in,’” he told the BDN.

Fahey says the bobcat isn't likely to attack a human, but to play it safe, you should remind small children to never approach a wild animal.

State wildlife officials plan to trap the animal and move it to a more appropriate location.
