Relay For Life of Penobscot County kicks off on Friday at 3:00 p.m. at Morse Field in Orono.

The event benefits the American Cancer Society and the effort to eliminate cancer.

Relay For Life events start with a survivor's lap, where cancer survivors walk to celebrate their victory over cancer.

The caregiver lap celebrates those who have given care to cancer patients.

And during the opening lap all relay teams are encouraged to walk.

Relay For Life events are up to 24 hours long. Teams camp out overnight and take turns walking.

It's not too late to make a donation or sign a team up for the event. For more information visit the Relay For Life of Penobscot County website.
