Some of my coworkers invited me to 'Paint and Sip' night last night, a chance to sip the beverage of my choice while attending a painting class. Painting as in artwork. I found out that I don't have much talent for it. But I had fun!

I wasn't sure what to expect when I was getting ready. So I put on an old shirt (GOOD idea) and I packed a small insulated bag with a bottle of wine (BAD idea - for me). I arrived at Generations Boutique on State Street in Brewer at around 5:15.

As the class started, we were all joking and having fun, mixing our dark blue with some white to get a pretty blue sky color. And the sky was pretty easy! It was just putting some blue paint on the canvas and getting a feel for the way they worked together.

Then, we had to create two hills with two shades of green, which was a little more challenging. Still....they came out pretty well! But things were about to get harder. Tree trunk. Tree branches. A ladder! One of my coworkers (who shall remain nameless) was heard mumbling, several times, that we should have done the trunk, branches, etc. before we started drinking. I'm not sure that would have helped!

Then we got to the leaves and apples. They were pretty easy! But I quickly realized that I just don't have an artistic eye, especially when I looked at some of the beautiful paintings done by others. I mean, mine's not horrible. Any respectable second grader should be able to do one just as good!

Oh yeah, let me explain those good-bad comments. The old shirt was good because I got paint everywhere - on my clothes, on my hands, and on my face after touching it with my paint-covered hands. And the wine was bad just because it always gives me a headache, which put a damper on my trip home. Next time, I'll have to find something else to sip. And, even though I'm no Van Gogh, there WILL be a next time! It was a blast!
