A New York man is charged with trafficking in heroin after drug agents searched a Brewer home. The homeowner faces similar charges.

The arrests were the result of a joint investigation between the Brewer Police Department and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.

Representatives from both agencies executed a search warrant on a single family home located at 8 Soucie Lane in Brewer at around 7 p.m. Wednesday. The search was the result of an investigation during which agents and officers learned that the homeowner was allowing a man from the Bronx, New York to periodically stay at the house for the alleged purpose of trafficking heroin imported from out of state.

Manuel Nunez, 21, also known as Jose Camacho and Gabriel Santana, of New York was found in a second floor bedroom of the home. Seized from Nunez were approximately 420 bags of heroin, with an estimated street value of $15,000, along with $1,000 in suspected cash proceeds.

Officials charged him with trafficking in heroin, and learned that he is currently wanted on an outstanding warrant in New York for felony drug trafficking offenses. Also arrested was the homeowner, 34-year-old Wesley Arnold of Brewer. Arnold is charged with Class B Trafficking in Heroin, while Nunez is charged with Class A Aggravated Trafficking, due to the amount of heroin that was seized.

Officials say the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are likely. Anyone with information concerning drug trafficking in their community is urged to contact their local law enforcement agency or the closest MDEA task force office.
