Once again, a resident of New York has been arrested in Maine for distribution of illegal drugs. In this case, undercover agents arranged to purchase oxycodone pills from the man who was arrested when he showed up at the meeting place.

The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency said in a press release on Tuesday that Jason Jones, age 32 of Bronx, New York was arrested as the result of an investigation into the illegal distribution of oxycodone throughout the greater Mid-Coast area. An undercover agent arranged to buy 200 Oxycodone pills from Jones. The meeting was arranged for the Irving in Searsport and, when Jones arrived, the 200 30 mg pills were seized. Police say Jones was going to sell the pills to the undercover agent for the wholesale price of $29 per pill, while the street or retail price in the Mid-Coast area is $40 to $45 per pill.

The MDEA Mid-Coast District Task force conducted an investigation into the illegal distribution of oxycodone in the region. Jones was identified as a source that distributed thousands of the prescription narcotics in the Greater Bangor, Augusta, and Mid-Coast area. Agents say Jones, who was also known as 'Smiley' is another example of a growing trend of out-of-state drug dealers traveling to Maine communities in order to sell the drugs for profit. He was taken to Waldo County Jail where bail was set at $50,000 cash. Assisting MDEA in this investigation were the Maine State Police and Searsport Police Department.

Anyone with information about the illegal sale of drugs is urged to contact the MDEA office nearest them or call the MDEA tip-line at 800-452-6457.
