The Deputy Superintendent of a National Park in Wyoming, who has ties to Maine, has been named the new Superintendent of Acadia National Park.

According to the Mount Desert Islander, Kevin Schneider has been working at the Grand Teton National Park for the past four years. Schneider was one of about 50 applicants for the job and will start his new duties at Acadia in late January.

He's been with the park service for about 19 years, working in several facilities, mostly in the Western part of the U.S. However, Schneider's wife, Cate grew up in Bangor and graduated from the University of Maine. The couple has two children.

Schneider succeeds Sheridan Steele, who retired in October.
