I have never understood why any doctor would calculate a baby's due date based on the generic mathematical equation that assumes all women's cycles are 28 days. Well that's about to change!

Ladies - have you ever wondered why the due date on your first-trimester ultrasound was a bit different from the due date your doctor calculated by asking you when your last menstrual period was? The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists (ACOG) has joined with American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine to release new guidelines on how they'll estimate a woman's due date.

Studies show that up to 40% of women would have their due dates changed based on a first trimester ultrasound ... so the new joint recommendation will have a dramatic effect on some moms (that's me!).
