Ellsworth City Councilors passed a new law pertaining to fireworks during this past Monday night's  meeting.

Fireworks use will no longer be permitted within the city's "urban core" area, where most residents reside in close quarters.  Outside of that of that area fireworks will be permitted between 6 and 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights, with extended hours around July 4th and New Year's.

The vote passed 6 to 1.

Councilors did express concern that areas on the Surry Road within the urban core could be sufficient for fireworks use, but if it were to be,  those residents there would have to obtain a permit.  That idea was tabled for further discussion in the future.
