Netflix has a new original series called 'The Ranch' that features some familiar faces, great writing, and lots of Country Music!

My kids told me about 'The Ranch' on Friday, and so Jim and I decided to check it out on Saturday morning. We ended up watching the first eight episodes in one sitting. Binge-watching at its best! The writing is excellent, with intelligent humor mixed in with some more juvenile fare. And the acting can't be beat.

'The Ranch' tells the story of a Colorado rancher named Beau, played by Sam Elliott, who's trying to hold onto his property and livestock through some tough times while also dealing with two adult sons living at home. 'Rooster,' played by Danny Masterson (Hyde from 'That 70's Show') has stayed at home and helped his father with the ranch. 'Colt,' played by Ashton Kutcher ('That 70's Show' and 'Two and a Half Men') has been away, trying his hand at a professional football career. When that bid fails, he returns to the Ranch with a chip on his shoulder. Topping off the amazing cast is Debra Winger, ('Terms of Endearment' and 'An Officer and a Gentleman') who plays Beau's estranged wife.

As if the great writing and stellar cast wasn't enough to hook me, the music that pops up frequently throughout the series is all Country! From a Shooter Jennings/Lukas Nelson remake of 'Mama's Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys' to Luke Bryan's 'Rain is a Good Thing,' and many, many more, the show centers around Country Music. One of my favorite Country-music themed scenes has an intoxicated Colt singing 'She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy' while riding a tractor down the road.

Pairing the two former 'That '70's Show' stars together as brothers, and making Sam Elliott and Debra Winger their parents was brilliant casting and, as I've said before, the writing is top-notch. I encourage you to check out 'The Ranch' on Netflix. You'll be hooked!
