More than 900 Emera Maine customers in downtown Ellsworth lost power Monday after an excavator struck a utility pole.

"Crews are assessing the damage and will work to restore service safely, and as quickly as possible," the utility said Monday at 1 p.m. in a news release.

The company reported 966 outages in Hancock County.

Drivers were urged to slow down or move over and change lanes while approaching utility crews working on roadways.

The company did not provide an estimated restoration time.
