Last night's (Nov. 28) episode of ABC's hit fall show 'Nashville' finally let viewers see the payoff to all the tension that's been building between country superstars Rayna Jaymes (Connie Britton) and Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere). The bitter rivals set aside their differences long enough to perform a duet at Nashville's legendary Ryman Auditorium.

Episode 7 was titled 'Lovesick Blues,' and it picked up where the last episode left off, with Scarlett (Clare Bowen) and Avery (Jonathan Jackson) broken up over his naked ambition. She went out on the town with Gunnar (Sam Palladio) and Hailey from their publisher's office, but when a random guy started being too aggressive with her, a possessive Gunnar stepped in, almost inadvertently revealing his underlying feelings for her. Scarlett went to the house she used to share with Avery, only to find his new manager, Marilyn, emerging from the bedroom half naked -- not the best way for Avery to convince her that they should get back together.

The political race between Teddy (Eric Close) and Coleman Carlisle (Robert Wisdom) got uglier, as Coleman threatened the public release of potentially compromising photos of Teddy and Peggy (Kimberly Williams-Paisley). Lamar (Powers Boothe) told Teddy he needed to tell Rayna everything about his land deal embezzlement and get it out of the way, and Teddy told a very apprehensive Peggy to be prepared. Lamar tried to convince a reluctant Teddy that sending Coleman to trial on his trumped-up drug charges would buy them enough time to win the election.

But it was the storyline between Rayna and Juliette that dominated the night on Episode 7 of 'Nashville,' as the head of the pair's label schemed and plotted to force them to work together, even though neither of them wanted to. Juliette, still reeling from her canceled tour, was told she needed the positive publicity so her negative public image won't taint her squeaky-clean new boyfriend, Sean -- who is such a straight arrow, in fact, that he informed her he does not believe in sex before marriage (much to her surprise).

Rayna drove a hard bargain that if she appeared with Juliette at the Ryman -- which would lend Juliette some much-needed industry credibility -- then the label would have to hold off on releasing a greatest hits record, and instead support the new music that she is making. But even once they agreed to perform together, the two women couldn't get on the same page as to what they should sing, with each one's ego getting too involved in the process. Juliette stormed out of a meeting after Rayna insulted her, only to have Deacon (Charles Esten) give her a tape of a song he and Juliette wrote.

Newly convinced that Juliette has real talent underneath her glossy pop persona, Rayna showed up at her house and proposed they write a new song together for the Ryman performance, and after battling it out in an all-night session, the women debuted an edgy, modern country track titled 'The Wrong Song' at the important industry event, scoring a home run that makes it look very much like they will be working together more in the future -- whether they like it or not.
