Jon Hamm plays an alcoholic, chain-smoking ad man with a serious case of the infidelities on 'Mad Men,' and women everywhere (including me) love him! So happy to see him recognized at last!

Jon Hamm is one of those characters that you love to watch on television, but hope you never run into in real life. He plays Donald Draper, an executive in an advertising agency on Madison Avenue in New York City. Don is a lady's man who keeps a bar cart in his office, so he can drink whenever he wants. But remember, this is New York City in the '60's, when it was a way of life!

I got hooked into the show after the first couple of episodes, initially because of the kitsch factor. I mean, it's authentic, as far as the cars, the appliances, and the moral values. For instance, on Peggy's first day as a secretary, she's introduced to the 'advance technology' of an IBM Selectric typewriter. As the daughter of an IBM'er, I found this hilarious!

But back to Jon Hamm. He seems, in numerous interviews, to truly be a nice guy with a great sense of humor. And yet he plays a shark (albeit a likable one) very, very well! And that sense of humor came out at the Emmy Awards this week when he crawled onto the stage to accept his award, in true Draper style!

Congratulations to Jon Hamm! It's about time you got recognized!
