Mud season has officially started, especially in Dexter, where a muddy road is preventing some residents from getting their vehicles home.

There is an extra season in Maine that often makes life challenging. Mud season makes it impossible to keep your floors clean and prompts people to wear their muck boots to the car before changing into nicer shoes.

As someone who lives on a dirt road and has a dirt driveway, I can tell you that it can be inconvenient, especially this time of year. Temperatures warm up, so the roads get wet and muddy, settling into deep ruts. Then we get a cold spell that freezes the road, ruts and all. However, it's never been so bad that I couldn't get through.

But for some people, that's exactly what happens. The Upper Garland Road in Dexter is heavily grooved, and so some residents are finding it difficult, and even impossible, to get their vehicles back home. It has to be inconvenient, especially if you have small children, pets, or groceries to get to your destination. And anyone who goes to work before dawn, like me, probably wouldn't be impressed to cross paths with a raccoon or skunk!

So,keep this in mind as you're traveling around the state. Mud season is here, making roads challenging and even downright impassable. Be prepared for anything, charge your cell phone, and keep those muck boots handy!
