Two more Maine Sheriff’s announce they’ll be hanging up their badge and ending their careers in law enforcement.

Penobscot County Sheriff Glenn Ross announced his plans to retire at the end of the year and not seek re-election, bringing to a close his thirty-six years in law enforcement.

“I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to lead a department that is respected throughout the state,” stated Ross in a press release. “While we all have a very difficult job, the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office and Jail have a reputation for being dedicated to its mission and respectful to the people that we serve.”

Sheriff Ross says he hopes those who follow him will continue with the philosophy of professionalism, community involvement, and close working relationships with all other public safety agencies.

Waldo County Sheriff Scott Story also says he’ll not seek re-election but his Chief Deputy, Jeff Trafton has announced his bid for the position.

Last month Hancock County Sheriff Bill Clark announced his retirement plans as well.
