Police say a man was seriously hurt when his car collided with a tractor-trailer truck on Route 2 in Mexico Monday night.

Police say 50-year-old Gerald Pelletier of Mexico lost control of his vehicle when he drove over a dead deer in the roadway.

Pelletier collided with an oncoming semi driven by 31-year-old Bernard Roy of Passumpsic, VT.

Pelletier was taken to Central Maine Medical Center with serious injuries.

Roy suffered minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.

The truck spilled part of its load of logs and Route 2 was closed for hours while crews cleaned up the accident.

Police say the deer had been struck and killed by another vehicle just moments before the accident.
