Two people have been arrested in connection with the discovery of a meth lab on Indian Island.

Ashley Coffman, 35, and Kristopher Loring, 37, both of Indian Island, face charges of Class B Trafficking in Schedule W Drugs (methamphetamine) and Class B Unlawful Operation of a Meth Lab.

The Penobscot Nation Police Department has been conducting an investigation into the suspected manufacturing of methamphetamine, for the past several weeks, by people who live at a home on Burnurwurbskek Lane. On Monday, officers found a significant amount of evidence consistent with an illegal meth lab, which had been thrown away in trash destined for the local landfill.

With the assistance of the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency's clandestine laboratory response team, officers and agents conducted a search warrant at 14 Burnurwurbskek Lane and found a significant amount of evidence consistent with a meth lab operation.

Two children who also lived in the home, ages 2 and 7, were placed in the custody of child protective workers from the Penobscot Nation.

This is the 9th state-wide meth incident that drug agents have responded to in April. The MDEA will continue to work closely with the Penobscot Nation Police Department on this investigation and officials say  more arrests are likely. If you have information about this investigation or the illegal sale of drugs, you're urged to contact the MDEA office closest to you or by calling the MDEA tip-line at 800-452-6457.
