State and local officials are keeping a close eye on a massive ice jam on the St. John River in Allagash.

Greg Stewart of the U.S. Geological Service says the water behind the ice jam in Allagash rose about 15 feet in 90 minutes early Thursday morning.

During a meeting of the Maine River Flow Advisory Commission Thursday, Stewart called the rise in the river level historic and said people along the river really need to pay attention.

Below is a video of the river posted on the Tylor Kellys Camps Allagash Maine Facebook page on Thursday.
