A man was taken into custody Tuesday after a high-speed chase from Bridgewater to Mars Hill, according to Maine State Police.

Lt. Brian Harris said in press release that officers were responding to a report of an assault at a home in Mars Hills, but the suspect, 43-year-old Francis Murray, fled the scene in a car before police arrived.

When officers spotted Murray's vehicle, the suspect refused to pull over, leading police on a chase with speeds reaching 80 mph, Harris said.

Murray's vehicle came to a stop after officers used a tire deflating device, and the suspect was arrested after a brief struggle, according to the press release.

Murray is charged with refusing to stop, operating under the influence, operating while revoked, assault and violation of a protection order.
