A Westfield man has died after crashing his ATV in Mars Hill.

Maine Warden Service Corporal John MacDonald says the accident happened just after 5:30 Monday evening. 70-year-old Gary Webber was traveling north on the 633 Boarder Trail, which is also known as the East Ridge Road, when his Polaris ATV left the trail. It struck a steep ditch and then hit some trees.

Webber died at the scene. He was riding with a second ATV operated by Patrick O'Leary-Plaud, also from Westfield. O'Leary-Plaud drove to the nearest house and called 911.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Warden Service.
