Maren Morris has been making big waves in country music, and her major-label full-length record Hero is the first debut record to top the Billboard's Top Country Albums chart in 2016.

According to Nielsen Music, in its first week, Hero sold 37,000 copies and on the all-genre Billboard 200, the record debuted at No. 5.

"I am still in shock at the response to Hero," Morris tells Billboard"This album is everything I had envisioned when I first thought about making a full record. I couldn't be more proud, and I'm so grateful."

Sony Music Nashville chairman/CEO Randy Goodman adds, "Debuting Maren at No. 1 is significant in many ways. Maren was our first signing since I took over [in the role on July, 8, 2015], and that set the tone for us to become a high-functioning team. We talked on day one [about] how we had to have an early breakthrough. So, on that level, Maren's debut is a huge step forward for our team and for a most deserving artist."

The record, which has 11 tracks, is the first debut album to arrive at No. 1 on Top Country Albums since Sam Hunt's Montevallo on Nov. 15, 2014. The last female with that distinction was Jennifer Nettles' first solo album That Girl on Feb. 1, 2014.

Hero includes several fan-favorite singles like gold-certified "My Church," and "80s Mercedes."

Morris says of Hero, “This record really encapsulates everything that’s been bouncing around my head for the past three years. It’s woven with every thread of my influences, which pulls from the country and R&B landscapes.”

She's on the road with Keith Urban and Brett Eldredge for Urban’s 2016 RipCORD World Tour.
