Anniversary surprises are so hard to pull off. Probably the most memorable for Shirley and me was our 10th. I bought her a ring and made a reservation at Seguino's Restaurant on Main St. in Bangor. I also had a longtime musician friend Mitch Geel--who has since passed away, God rest his soul--show up and play a song for Shirley. Everything worked out perfectly. What I didn't expect was that the packed restaurant would suddenly become incredibly quiet when Mitch walked in with guitar in hand. He pulled up a chair from another table and said, "Happy Anniversary, Shirley," and then started to play and sing. It was one of the most poignant/romantic songs to ever grace the ears of everyone in attendance, including mine. Shirley started crying, I got teary-eyed, and when I looked around most of the rest of the restaurant patrons were also in tears. I then presented her with a ring, which started more tears to flow...yep, pulled that one off.

Here's a wonderful yet short video of a guy who pulled off an anniversary vacation surprise. Her reaction is beautiful.
