The State Marshal's Office says a man was killed Saturday morning in a house fire in the Cape Neddick section of York.

The victim has been tentatively identified as John Herrin, 64, the owner of the Simpson Hill Road home that was destroyed in the fire, according to Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

The two-alarm fire, which broke out just after 6 a.m., was reported by workers at a nearby VFW Hall.

The state medical examiner’s office is still working to make a positive identification, and the fire marshal’s office has yet to determine the cause of the blaze.
