As a major winter storm hovers over Maine, The National Weather Service on Tuesday issued a blizzard warning for the state, and urged Mainers to stay off the roads.

The latest forecast includes new snow totals for eastern Maine, including 14-inches of snow now predicted for Bangor. The snow started in the Bangor area at around 11 a.m. Tuesday and spread north and east.

The snow is expected to be heaviest in the Bangor area late afternoon and early evening.

Many schools and businesses closed early Tuesday in advance of the storm.

The weather service warns of hazardous road conditions and urged Mainers to stay off the roads so crews could more effectively clear the roads.
