Even though there is snow on the ground some Maine State Parks are just as busy as they are in the summer.

Here are 8 state parks around the state that offer things like snowshoe and cross country trails, ice skating, sledding, winter camping, and even one that offers places for you to ride your horse through the forest!

Aroostook County State Park- Presque Isle

This park features cross country skiing trails, sledding hill, ice skating, and winter camping. There is also a warming lodge in case you do need a break from the winter.

Animals from cats to horses welcome here on the trails. The trails are prefect for 'fat' biking, or snowshoeing.

While this park has no groomed trails for cross country skiing they do have many come and do it on the lake. There is also snowmobile trail access here, and winter camping.

Lily Bay State Park- Moosehead Lake

Winter camping is allowed here but the real highlight is the annual winter family fun day with snowshoeing, sled rides, ice fishing, and a bonfire.

Fifteen miles of cross country skiing trails, snowshoeing trails, sledding hills, and ice skating are just some things to do here in the winter. Camping is also allowed at certain times.

Reid State Park- Georgetown

Walk on the beach in the winter here. Your footwear may be different than summer, but the views are still amazing. There are also spots to have a picnic even though it is winter, bring some coco and take in a sunset.

This park is one of Maine's first state parks and offers many groomed trails for cross country skiing in the winter.

Although many state parks are not plowed or staffed in the winter they are still open to the public during the day time. They just request you pay the usual fees at the 'iron ranger' gate boxes.
