The Maine Warden Service is hiring and this time the agency is hoping for an increase in the number of applications it receives.

Dan Menard tells the Bangor Daily News he was one of 1,700 applicants when he became a Game Warden in the 1990s. Now in charge of the hiring process, Menard says the most applications he has ever received during a hiring cycle is 80.

Menard hopes to reach out to a larger number of possible recruits this year.

“We’ve had trouble filling opportunities in rural areas like Aroostook and Washington counties," Menard told the BDN. "We’re going to hold informational meetings for people in those areas that maybe had no idea that they wanted to be a game warden, or maybe don’t know what it takes.”

The warden service will hold several informational meetings beginning in April:

Fort Kent Town Office, April 6

Houlton Public Safety Building, April 7

Presque Isle Police Department, April 8

Washington Academy, East Machias, April 14

Foxcroft Academy, Dover-Foxcroft, April 15

Cabela’s, Scarborough, May 9

The Maine Warden Service will be accepting applications until June 22.
