Students, teachers, and chaperones from Fort Kent are safe after witnessing a deadly shooting in Paris.

WAGM-TV reports the group was visiting the Champs Elysee in Paris when the shooting happened. According to CNN, a man got out of a car with a machine gun and opened fire. A police officer was killed and two others critically injured before the gunman was shot dead. ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack by a French national name Karim Cheurfi.

EF Educational Tours released a statement that the students and adults are all safe, and that they will be avoiding the area around the Champs Elysee. Plans for the remainder of the trip will also be re-evaluated.
