The role of administrator is no easy task and that's certainly the case when it comes to managing personnel, budgets and property, which includes a county jail.

The Maine Sheriff's Association recently held its winter training conference in Portland and awards were also given out.

The very competitive, "Manager of the Year" Award was presented to Chief Troy Morton with the Penobscot County Sheriff's Department.

“Chief Morton brings an exemplary skill set to the position of Chief Deputy. He is a valued leader in the Law Enforcement community that has demonstrated much success in collaboration, problem solving and in enforcement," states Maine Sheriff's Association President, Randall Liberty. "The citizens of Penobscot County are fortunate to have such a visionary leader.”

Chief Morton started his career as a Corrections Officer in 1988, transferred to the transportation division in 1990 and served as a Patrol Deputy in 1996. In 2003 he was promoted to the position of Chief Deputy.
