Do you subscribe to Sirius XM satellite radio?  First off, why?  Listening to I-95 is free at I95Rocks.com and on the Radio Pup app!  Secondly, they may have ripped you off and you may be able to claim restitution.

Maine Attorney General Janet Mills announced yesterday that a $3.8 million dollar settlement has been reached with 44 states over misleading advertising and billing practices by Sirius XM and their satellite subscription services.

The problems occurred between July 28th, 2008 and December 4th, 2014.  Problems included customers who kept receiving bills after they had ended their service, had their annual subscription renewed without consent, had their rates increased without warning after a low introductory rate expired, and did not receive refunds "in a timely manner."

Maine, one of the 44 states involved, received $15,000 of the $3.8 million settlement.

Sirius XM will now have to change some of its business practices at the time of sale.

To be considered for restitution here's what you can do:

  • File a complaint about eligible issues (see above) that happened from July 28, 2008, to December 4, 2014, involving an identifiable loss that has not been previously resolved
  • Send complaint by mail to SiriusXM, P.O. Box 33059, Detroit, MI  48232-5059 or email
  • Contact SiriusXM directly before May 3, 2015, at 1 (888) 601-6296.
