A man accused of leading police on a pair of high-speed chases in Kennebec County has turned himself in.

28-year-old Steven Black turned himself in at the Augusta Police Department Sunday night.

He's accused of leading state police on a chase in Manchester Thursday night that reached speeds of over 100 mph.

Police in Winthrop say officers attempted to pull Black over later that night but they lost track of his car on Pond Road.

Police say Black crashed into a tree near the West Gardiner town line. With the help of a state police dog, troopers followed the suspect's tracks on and along Cobbossee Lake for over five miles, but Black was never found.

Black was charged with operating after suspension of his driver’s license, eluding a police officer and driving to endanger.
