Sugar houses around the state are preparing to invite folks in for fun and educational events this weekend on Maine Maple Sunday.

It promises to be a great family day, with Easter and Maine Maple Sunday offering family activities. Of course, Easter offers religious fellowship, as well as egg hunts, and gobbling of chocolate bunnies.

On Maine Maple Sunday, folks are invited into local sugar houses so maple producers can demonstrate how syrup is made. There will be samples of syrup, candy, and other delicacies, which the kids will love! And the demonstrations of the process of tapping trees will help them understand that the stuff they put on pancakes comes from nature.

When I was a kid, my grandfather used to tap trees and sometimes he'd take us with him. I remember looking into those buckets, hanging off the trees, and then at the pot where he'd boil it down to syrup. Now, I have a neighbor who's tapping trees at the end of my driveway and I love to watch he and his little son doing what I did so many years ago. Some traditions never go out of style!

If you're looking for a Maine Maple Sunday celebration near you, check out the awesome interactive map on the Maine Maple Producers website. Just click on the name of a sugar house, or a location on the map, and you'll get details about the sugar house and what the open house includes.

Have a Happy Easter and a delicious Maine Maple Sunday!
