A Windham man has pleaded not guilty to murder and manslaughter charges in the shooting death of his wife.

Noah Gaston, 33, entered his pleas at the Cumberland County Courthouse in Portland on Tuesday, reports the Portland Press Herald.

Gaston told police he shot his wife, Alicia Gaston, 34, in their Brookhaven Drive home, thinking she was an intruder.

Police said Alicia Gaston was shot as she walked up the stairs of the two-story home on the morning of Jan. 14.

The couple’s three children, ages 9, 8 and 2, where home and in their bedrooms at the time of the incident.

Gaston's trial has been tentatively set for March 2017.

If he's convicted of murder, he'll face between 25 years and life in prison at sentencing. If Gaston is convicted of manslaughter, he could get up to 30 years in prison.
