Maine Man Killed In Accident On Gulf Coast Oil Rig

A man from Hope was killed in an accident on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday.

WABI reports that 35-year-old Sam Whitley was killed in an accident on a rig called the Pacific Santa Ana.

Chevron Corp. contracted the rig from Pacific Drilling.

The U.S. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement says the rig has been shut down and the Coast Guard is investigating the incident.

No other injuries were reported in the accident.
