How long does it take to train a dog to work with the Warden's Service? At what point do they have to retire? And how do they stay cool in the Warden's truck? These are just a few of the questions answered by Warden Alan Curtis over the weekend, before his K-9 Sig put on an impressive demonstration!

I co-hosted The Greater Bangor Bark for Life over the weekend, with my friend Craig Colson of ABC 7. It was so great to see all the dogs (and their humans), but my favorite had to be Sig, Alan's K-9. He's beautiful! And incredibly friendly. I was talking to Alan and petting Sig, who was in the truck's window. When I stopped petting him, he leaned out the window, and even pushed his front paw against my shoulder, as if to say 'Hey! Pet me!'

During the event, Alan talked a bit about Sig, and what's involved in training a dog to work with the Warden's Service. The dogs live with the Wardens, so there's a genuine feeling of trust and affection between canine and handler. And you can tell, when you see Alan and Sig together. They love each other and work very well together.

Check out the video of Alan answering some questions from the audience. And don't miss Sig's demonstration at the end of the video. He did great, despite the fact that there were a lot of other dogs around. And he's such a good boy, he even gave me (or my camera) a kiss at the end!
