Ricky Plummer, charged with arson in connection with a brush and woods fire last April, has resigned as chief of the Old Orchard Beach Fire Department.

Town Councilor Kenneth Blow confirmed Plummer’s resignation in an email Wednesday morning, the Journal Tribune reports.

Plummer, 59, of Biddeford, is accused of starting a fire that burned more than 40 acres near Jones Creek on April 15.

About 100 firefighters from several communities spent two hours trying to knock down the flames.

The town is now searching for its next fire chief. In the meantime, Old Orchard Beach resident William Farley, a veteran firefighter with more than 45 years of experience, will serve as interim fire chief.
