A Portland man is facing a long list of charges after police say he got into a wrestling match with a State Trooper in the middle of I-295 in Gardiner.

Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says 27-year-old Andre Hicks was a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over for speeding.

McCausland says Hicks was being searched outside the vehicle when he lowered his shoulders and rammed the trooper into the middle of the busy road.

Some drivers stopped and assisted the trooper in subduing the suspect, who was placed in handcuffs and arrested.

According to McCausland, when the vehicle was searched, troopers recovered $10,000 in cash, oxycodone, heroin and marijuana.

Hicks was charged with assaulting a police officer, possession of heroin, criminal mischief, obstructing government administration and disorderly conduct.
