According to Wallethub's findings Maine has some of the highest vehicle taxes in the country! The highest is Rhode Island where they almost double Maine's rates.

Findings were based off the average annual taxes on a $23K car in each state. Here are the 10 states with the highest vehicle taxes with their average annual vehicle taxes:

  1. Rhode Island- $1,099
  2. Virginia- $966
  3. Mississippi- $773
  4. Connecticut- $642
  5. Missouri- $606
  6. Maine- $554
  7. South Carolina- $520
  8. Massachusetts- $519
  9. Kansas- $426
  10. New Hampshire- $415

Of course just because other states have lower vehicle taxes doesn't mean you should move away, other states might have higher real-estate taxes! Luckily Wallethub has all the details. Click here to view the complete data for each state for real-estate and vehicle taxes.
