Some fans (okay, haters) on Twitter compared Blake Shelton to Kanye West after the country singer jumped on stage toward the end of Luke Bryan's ACM Entertainer of the Year acceptance speech on Sunday night (April 19). But Bryan quickly defended his friend and co-host.

"He's not Kanye!" Bryan said after the show (quote via WIBL, 107.7 the Bull).

In the video above, you'll see Bryan takes about 30 seconds to thank fans, management and family before Shelton jumps on the stage. Music had already started, and the show was wrapping up. As for what happened ...

"Probably he was instructed to make sure the show ends on time," Bryan explains after, "I've never seen a countdown start at 18 seconds."

The "18 seconds" is in reference to the teleprompter countdown that lets all artists know how much time they have to talk in their acceptance speech. When it gets to zero, something like "Please wrap up" flashes, telling them to finish. During the 2015 ACM Awards, every artist took more time than 18 seconds to thank those who needed thanking.

“Blake could have run out there with me and it what have been an amazing moment,” Bryan says, clearly harboring no ill-will toward Shelton.

Fans at home might have noticed the final half-hour of the show was rushed, with little time between performances and awards. Introductions were truncated to allow time for everything. Brad Paisley returned to the stage to close the show.

The ACM Entertainer of the Year win was Bryan's second, as he also won in 2013. It was his only win on the night. Miranda Lambert took home the most trophies with five total.
