The 22nd annual Relay For Life of Penobscot raised more than $125,000 for the American Cancer Society, according to a press release issued Tuesday.

The event took place May 15 and 16 at the University of Maine campus in Orono.

Organizers say 85 registered cancer survivors and 53 teams participated in the event.

“Relay For Life of Penobscot’s Event Leadership Team would like to thank the cancer survivors, caregivers, and community members who fundraised, walked the track, and served or donated food for our Survivors’ Banquet,” said Event Lead Karen Girvan. “Our community is what enables us to continue holding this event year after year.

Donations are still being accepted at the Relay For Life website.

Another opportunity to raise money for the American Cancer Society comes up Saturday, June 13 with Bark For Life at Hollywood Casino Raceway.
