When you spend as much time together as bandmates do, you're likely to develop deep bonds and become close -- like family. In a new interview, though, the member of Little Big Town admit that the personal tragedies that they have endured have also helped cement their deep friendships.

"We do take care of each other," LBT's Karen Fairchild tells Willie Geist during a segment on Sunday Today. Jimi Westbrook -- who is also Fairchild's husband -- adds, "It's the things that you walk through usually only with close family" that have brought the band closer together.

Little Big Town fans know, of course, about the death of Kimberly Schlapman's first husband, Steven Roads, who passed away from a heart attack in 2005. Roads was also LBT's lawyer, and Fairchild has said that she and her bandmates, Westbrook and Phillip Sweet, were sure that their career was over at that point. However, in the Sunday Today segment, Westbrook is specifically alluding to the death of his sister Joyce in 2015.

"I think [those personal tragedies are] how we all became family, and it makes us strong," Westbrook continues. "I wouldn't want to walk through any of this without these people."

During their Sunday Today appearance, Little Big Town also discuss their new song "Don't Die Young, Don't Get Old." The tune appears on their newest studio album, The Breaker, and was inspired by Westbrook's sister's fight with cancer. Fairchild and Schlapman penned the song with Hillary Lindsey, Lori McKenna and Liz Rose shortly after Joyce's death.

"There's a heart of that song that I feel like I see the path my family walked together with my sister," Westbrook says of "Don't Die Young, Don't Get Old."

Little Big Town's full Sunday Today interview will air on April 30.
