The Augusta police have issued a press release regarding a convicted sex offender who is required to register for life. 44-year-old Lorne Sherwood was released from prison today and will be living in Augusta.

Sherwood was convicted in 1997 of kidnapping, aggravated assault, gross sexual assault, and attempted murder, according to Deputy Chief Jared Mills of the Augusta Police Department. He's been released from the Windham Correctional Center, where he's spent more than 17 years.

Sherwood is a registered sex offender and his victim was a 14-year-old girl in 1996. He's required by law to register for life, which means he must check in regularly with law enforcement and must inform them if his place of residence changes.

Deputy Chief Mills wants residents to know that Sherwood will be living at 34 Cedar Street, Apartment #38 in Augusta. He was living in Biddeford at the time of his offense.

Anyone with any questions is asked to call an Augusta Police Supervisor at 626-2370 and ask for the On Duty Supervisor.
