Lewiston Mayor Robert Macdonald has written a letter to the editor to the Twin City Times in which he suggests all welfare recipients should be publicly identified.

In the letter, Macdonald talks about how anyone who is issued a check from the state for a pension or salary is identified. My wife, who is paid by RSU 19 for teaching at Nokomis High School is listed on this site, as her salary is paid by the taxpayers.

Macdonald, though, wants a website created that will list the name and address who is on public assistance. He wants the amount listed that they receive, and also how long they have been receiving public assistance.

In his letter he states

We will be submitting a bill to the next legislative session asking that a website be created containing the names, addresses, length of time on assistance and the benefits being collected by every individual on the dole. After all, the public has a right to know how its money is being spent.

So I want to know
