Mainers can donate food for the hungry this weekend without leaving home. The National Association of Letter Carriers food drive is being held this Saturday.

Donating couldn't be easier! Just put healthy, nutritious, non-perishable food items in a plastic bag and leave it at the end of your driveway or next to your mailbox. If you live in a rural area, you can leave the bag on the ground by your mailbox. And if you live in an apartment complex, you can leave it on the ground in front of the bank of mailboxes.

The donations will be picked up by letter carriers and by volunteers and will then be distributed to area food pantries. The United Way's Adam Lacher says last year’s Stamp Out Hunger drive collected more than eighty-two thousand donations. This year, he says, they hope to get between 90 and 100 thousand. For more information on the Letter Carriers drive or on how to volunteer this Saturday, contact the United Way of Eastern Maine.
