The Waldo County Sheriff's Office says a Knox man suffered non-life threatening injuries when his pickup crashed and caught fire.

Sheriff Jeffrey Trafton said in a media release that the accident happened just before 9:30 Thursday evening on Penney Road in Knox. Deputies found a Chevrolet Silverado that had gone off the road. The driver, 25-year-old Christian Zingia of Knox, had been traveling at a high rate of speed and lost control of the pickup, which went off the left side of the road. Zingia over-corrected and the truck veered to the right side of the road, hit a tree, and caught fire.

The flames were extinguished by the Freedom Fire Department and Zingia was able to escape the vehicle with non-life threatening injuries. He was taken to Waldo County General Hospital and then transported via Life Flight to Eastern Maine Medical Center.

The crash remains under investigation.
