It's the news no Kip Moore fan wants to hear: the singer will be taking a much-needed break in 2017.

In an interview with Rare Country at the last stop of his Me & My Kind Tour on Saturday (Dec. 10), the "Running for You" singer said that he plans to take some time off in the new year after working 12 years nonstop.

“I don’t know what the word is, because I’m not just worn out … I’m something more than that,” Moore explains. “We have toured 175 or more shows for six years straight, which is kind of unheard of. We are all tired. I don’t think people see that side very often because they just see us onstage, but the grind of sleeping on a bus every night for 225 days or more takes a mental and physical tear on you. All I have done is music every day of my life, so this is going to be my first real break from it in probably 12 years.”

Moore says he plans to take a very real break — that means no guitar, no microphone, no songwriting.

“I’m going to walk away from it. I’m not going to bring a guitar, and I’m not going to do anything with music,” he says. “I’m going to surf and snowboard and camp and just try to get my head right. My head hasn’t been in the best place so I want to try and work on all that and get settled for next year.”

“I haven’t had any time for the people who deserve my time,” he adds. “It’s been a very selfish life for so many years now. I got to find a way to make a change with that. I love what I do, but I have to find some sort of balance that I have yet to find.”

Moore has plans to surf in Maui and Costa Rica during his downtime. Having recently finished his own headlining tour — as well as being on tour with Miranda Lambert earlier this year — the singer says it's necessary both for him and his fans.

“I think people have gotten used to always seeing us out on the road. I think it will be good for us to go away for awhile,” he reasons. “I fear sometimes that people are going to get tired of us, as much as we have been out. I need to get away for a while.”

Don't worry, though — Moore is far from calling it quits. He will be back in March for the Strawberry Festival in Plant City, Fla., and has several dates already lined up in Canada in April.
