A Kenduskeag man sustained life-threatening injuries in an ATV crash that also injured a 6-year-old child.

Penobscot County Sheriff's Deputies responded to an all-terrain vehicle accident Sunday on Route 15 in Glenburn. Ricky Rossignol, 51, of Kenduskeag was operating a 1987 Honda 4-wheeler southbound before pulling into the parking lot of the Village Variety and losing control.

Both Rossignol and his 6-year-old female passenger were ejected. Neither rider was wearing a helmet. Rossignol was taken to EMMC with life-threatening injuries. The girl was treated at the scene by rescue personnel.

Officials say excessive speed and alcohol are likely factors in the crash, which remains under investigation. In addition, it will be reviewed by the District Attorney's office for possible criminal charges. Any witnesses to the crash that have not yet spoken with investigators are urged to contact Detective William Flagg or Deputy Jason Matheson at the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office at 947-4585.
